DEAF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WORK

A project has been developed with funding support from the NHS Doncaster Health. Gillian Wilson and Diane Taylor are two dedicated Development Workers, working on a job share basis,for the Deaf Community. Their work and that of the project will target, reach out and aim to include people who are Deaf/deaf, deafened and hard of hearing.


The aim of the project is to 'work towards empowering members of the Doncaster Deaf Community to access a range of opportunities and to work with service providers to raise awareness of the needs of all Deaf people in order for their services to become more accessible to the Deaf community.

The Passion for Life Event 7th of August 2010.


Passion for Life Event

On Saturday 7th August 2010 a Passion for Life Event was held at Doncaster Deaf Centre and 28 people from the Doncaster Community attended Working with Elaine Thompson Public Health Improvement Co-ordinator NHS and the Passion for Life team, the aim of the event was to help over 65's achieve a healthy, high quality lifestyle covering four key areas: Safety at Home, Social Networks, Food and Drink and Physical Activity. The event also formed part of collective work to help both Elaine and the Development Workers to the Deaf Community identify health areas of concern to Deaf people and develop future health related awareness raising and training events which will target the Deaf community and be responsive to their needs


Doncaster Deaf Centre and National Deaf Awareness Week 2010

With the support of the Development Workers to the Deaf Community the Deaf Centre worked towards producing and launching two promotional and information documents about their centre, its services and its activities during this important week. A Deaf Centre information booklet and Weekly Diary sheet were launched at the SYCIL centre during a recent information event.
