Tony's Story - How I learned to use the computer
Six months ago I would never have dreamed, that I would be sitting here at a computer writing this note.
I had always viewed any computer with a great deal of suspicion, but now thanks to Ray at Sycil here I am.
I still have a lot to learn but I feel as though I have really achieved something, ITS NOTHING SORT OF A MIRACLE. I know that if I can do it then anybody can, so don't be afraid start to day, otherwise you will never know what you are missing.
Tony's Success
Tony has now completed the Confidence and received his NOCN Accreditation, he has since completed a Desktop Publishing course and is now gone on to our Basic Internet and Email course.
Alternative Computer Access Assessments

Use of computers and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is now fundamental to most aspects of daily life from work to leisure. In addition ICT empowers and enriches many people's lives bringing together communities, opening up new vistas of opportunity and providing access to a wealth of services and information. It is essential therefore to ensure that all members of the community have the ability to access the technology and use the equipment.
People with difficulties accessing ICT via conventional methods may benefit from the provision of specialist mechanisms or devices, such as:
Enabling or altering built in facilities within software (e.g. windows)
- Sticky keys
- Magnifier
- Narrator
- Mouse speed
Or specific devices such as:
- Alternative mouse pointers
- Colour schemes
- Font and icon sizes
- Alternative keyboards such as mini, expanded and coloured keyboards
- Alternative mice such as a trackball, joystick, touchpad
- Magnification software and hardware
- Screen reading software
- Speech recognition software
- Switch access with specialist accessibility software
All our courses require you to attend a Pre Course Assessment; this lets us find out what your computer equipment requirements are.

Alternative Computer Access Equipment, Joy Sticks, Buddy Buttons.
At SYCIL we have a range of specialist equipment. We can offer Alternative Computer Access Assessments to individuals and professionals.
To find out more about the equipment we have or for more information please download our ICT Assessment Leaflet or email Ray Curtis.
